Health and Safety policy
Brent Removals Health And Safety Policy
Brent Removals is committed to maintaining the highest possible standards of health and safety for our employees, clients, visitors, contractors, and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety across all removal and related services, including domestic moves, office relocations, packing, loading, transport, unloading, and storage operations.
Health And Safety Objectives
Our primary objective is to prevent injury and ill health arising from our work. We aim to provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions, equipment, and systems of work, and to promote a positive health and safety culture throughout Brent Removals. We will regularly review our practices to ensure continuous improvement.
Management Responsibilities
The management of Brent Removals accepts overall responsibility for implementing and monitoring this Health and Safety Policy. Managers and supervisors are responsible for:
Ensuring that appropriate risk assessments are carried out for all significant activities, and that control measures are implemented and maintained.
Providing suitable equipment, including vehicles, lifting aids, and personal protective equipment, and ensuring these are properly maintained.
Ensuring that employees receive adequate information, instruction, training, and supervision to perform their work safely.
Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
Reviewing this policy periodically, and whenever significant changes occur in the business or in relevant legislation.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees, including temporary and agency workers under the control of Brent Removals, share responsibility for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. Employees are expected to:
Follow all safety instructions, procedures, and training provided by Brent Removals.
Use equipment, vehicles, and personal protective equipment correctly and for their intended purpose.
Report any hazards, defects, unsafe practices, or concerns to their supervisor as soon as possible.
Cooperate fully with any health and safety investigations, audits, or inspections.
Refrain from any behaviour that could put themselves, colleagues, clients, or the public at risk.
Risk Assessment And Safe Systems Of Work
Brent Removals will carry out risk assessments for key tasks and activities associated with removal work, including but not limited to manual handling, use of vehicles, loading and unloading, working in and around client premises, and work involving stairs, tight access, or heavy and awkward items.
Based on these risk assessments, we will develop and implement safe systems of work to control risks as far as reasonably practicable. These may include the use of handling aids, team lifting techniques, route planning, and specific procedures for fragile, high value, or specialist items.
Manual Handling And Lifting
Manual handling is a core part of removal work and is one of the main sources of injury in the industry. Brent Removals will minimise manual handling risks by:
Assessing loads, routes, and environmental conditions before lifting or moving items.
Providing appropriate handling equipment, such as trolleys, dollies, straps, ramps, and floor protection.
Training staff in correct lifting and carrying techniques, team lifting, and the recognition of loads that require additional assistance or equipment.
Encouraging employees to speak up if they feel a load is too heavy or unsafe to move.
Vehicles And Driving Safety
Brent Removals will ensure that all company vehicles used for removal work are suitable for their purpose, well maintained, and operated safely. Measures include:
Carrying out regular checks and servicing of vehicles.
Ensuring that drivers are competent, appropriately licensed, and familiar with the safe operation of removal vehicles and loading systems.
Planning routes to minimise risks where possible and to allow sufficient time for safe driving and loading operations.
Ensuring that loads are packed and secured to prevent movement during transit and to protect both staff and customers property.
Working At Client Premises
Removal work often takes place in domestic properties, offices, and other premises not under our direct control. Brent Removals will:
Take reasonable steps to identify and control hazards, such as uneven ground, restricted access, slippery surfaces, or obstructions.
Use protective materials to minimise damage and reduce slip and trip risks, for example by securing floor coverings and keeping walkways clear.
Coordinate with clients regarding access, parking, lift use, and any specific building rules or safety requirements.
Ensure that staff conduct themselves professionally and with care towards clients and their property at all times.
Training And Competence
Brent Removals recognises that effective training is essential for maintaining high health and safety standards. We will ensure that:
All new employees receive an appropriate health and safety induction.
Removal staff receive ongoing training in manual handling, equipment use, vehicle safety, hazard awareness, and emergency procedures.
Supervisors and team leaders have the skills and knowledge required to manage health and safety on site and to coach others.
Accident Reporting And Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, and near misses must be reported to management as soon as possible so that they can be properly recorded, investigated, and, where necessary, notified to the relevant authorities. Brent Removals will:
Maintain appropriate records of accidents and incidents.
Review incidents to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Provide guidance to staff on what to do in the event of an injury, fire, road traffic collision, or other emergency during removal operations.
Consultation And Continuous Improvement
Brent Removals encourages open communication about health and safety. Employees are invited to raise any concerns or suggestions for improvement with their supervisor or management. We will monitor our performance and review this Health and Safety Policy regularly to ensure it remains effective, relevant, and aligned with best practice in the removals sector.
This policy applies to all aspects of Brent Removals activities and forms an integral part of our commitment to providing a safe, reliable, and professional removal service.
